People of Faith for Equality In Virginia

Gender Workshop

September 11, 12:30 - 4:00 P.M.

At Gay Community Center of Richmond

Equality sounds good, but sometimes people have trouble getting all the way there. A growing proportion of Americans support equality for gay men and lesbians, but many of them don’t yet know what to think about our transgender siblings.

That’s why People of Faith for Equality in Virginia is teaming up with the Human Rights Campaign to sponsor several workshops about “Gender Identity and Our Faith Communities.”

The first one will be on Saturday, September 11, 12:30-4:00 pm, at the Gay Community Center in Richmond. Future ones are planned in Tidewater and several more western communities.

The workshop in Richmond will be led by one of the developers of the curriculum, Angel Collie of North Carolina, Co-Lead of the Metropolitan Community Churches’ Transgender Ministries Program.

There is no charge for the workshop, although pre-registration is encouraged at www.hrc.org/GenderFaithRichmond  Light refreshments will be served.

The question of transgender equality has special resonance in the debate over adopting Employment Non-Discrimination legislation (ENDA) at the federal and state levels.

Meditation Monday

Changed to September 13 at 6:00 P.M.

Celebration Hall

Sometimes, we can’t see the forest for the trees.
If all you see is trouble, it will be difficult to see blessing.

Sometimes, there is even blessing in  trouble. There is the story of a man who was fired from his job—and that is what it took to get him to go back to school, where he should have been all along, finishing his degree.

Stepping Up, becoming a blessing congregation, requires us to focus on the good energy here, the newcomers, the gifts God showers on us, and the generosity of our members and friends.

Have you stepped up to claim, and share, our blessing today?
.
