A Way to Renewal

Do you believe everything is spiritual? It can be difficult for modern and post-modern people to grasp this fundamental concept, but when you do, your life changes. For the better!

So, come, set aside a day, Saturday, March 6, 9:30 A.M. – 4:00 P.M., for spiritual exploration that can help you change your life.

Join Pastor Robin and members of the Renewal Team as we watch and discuss an entertaining and intelligent video from Rob Bell, “Everything Is Spiritual.

The rest of the day, we’ll explore personal spiritual desires, share hopes and dreams with each other, make a commitment to support one another on our spiritual journeys, and make plans to gather again.

Lunch is included; a $5 donation is requested to cover costs, but don’t let that keep you away. Questions? RevRobinG@MCCRichmond.org or 519-3196.

Step Up with Boldness

Frieda Smith knew she loved the Lord. She also knew she needed to step up to fulfill her call to full-time ministry.

Some of the men in the early MCC movement, like their brothers in other religious groups, had a hard time admitting that women—Frieda and many others—were suitable for ordained ministry. Old bad habits die hard.

But die they must. And it is people, women, like Frieda Smith—who forcefully pushed MCC into ordaining women and removing all references to humans as “man” or “men” in the denomination’s bylaws—who make it happen . No one who was present at the General Conference where Frieda forced a vote on every change will ever forget it.

The next time you wonder if you should step up to something you know is right, remember Rev. Elder Frieda Smith. She is one of many MCC women who make a difference.
